All you really need for your son’s circumcision visit is a spare diaper and your son. Below are a few more details…

Before you get to the office:

  • You may wish to give your baby some Tempra/Tylenol/Acetominophen (NOT Aspirin/Ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin) one to two hours before the procedure.
  • How much Tylenol? Most babies weight about 3kg and the dose of Tylenol is 15mg/kg so about 0.6ml of infant Tylenol. 4kg à75ml. Always know baby’s weight in kg not pounds, as all mediations use metric units.

What to bring with you:

  1. Your baby – dressed in a onesie, +/-socks, and a diaper.
  • Please do not dress baby in pants. Getting pants on and off means more unnecessary leg movement and can lead to discomfort.
  1. Diapers – 2 extra, just in case.
  2. A Pacifier – even if baby doesn’t usually use a pacifier, it can be helpful during the procedure.
  3. Vaseline and Tylenol – it is important to buy these items from the pharmacy before your circumcision. You wont need the Vaseline at the appointment (we will supply it), but don’t leave this until afterwards as you may want to head right home after the procedure.

When you get to the office:

  1. Enter the building through the ambulance door to the right of the main building doors.
  2. Go to the right and inside the clinic (not thru the door in front of you). Let the receptionist know you are here for a circumcision as soon as you arrive.
  3. You will be asked to sign a form explaining the procedure and providing consent. Dr. Pakes will describe the process and answer any questions you may have.

Before you leave the office:

  1. You will receive written directions about ‘after-care’ and I will be happy to answer your questions and provide my email and cellphone number should you wish to contact me for any reason.

Follow Up:

  1. Before COVID-19 some parents came in for a follow up visit during clinic hours. Since COVID, most parents followup by text/WhatsApp or email. If you would like an in-person followup just email and we’ll find a time – it is up to you.
  2. The after-care instruction sheet should answer most of your questions but you are always welcome to email Dr. Pakes at safecirc@gmail.com with questions regarding your circumcision. He will generally respond as soon as possible 24/6.
